About Us

Club History

The Righteous Brewers of Townsvile was started late in 2011 by the silver tongued Stephen Staples along with a small group of fellow homebrewers and craft beer lovers; Greg Young, Lucy Bonanno, Jennifer Hodge, Joe Pollock, Megan Kent, and Scott Eckford. We have quickly grown to boast around 100 members, of which around 30-40 actively participate.

The purpose of starting this homebrew club was to create a forum by which like-minded individuals could discuss and critique their lastest homebrewed creations, experimental beer, or new brewing technique.

RBT would like to thank the following external influences. Without your contributions, we would probably not exist:

Acknowledgements

  • The Ancient Mesopotamians for discovering beer

  • Gough Whitlam for legalising homebrewing in Australia

  • Pioneers in homebrew like Charlie Papazian for inspiring forward thinking

  • Establishments like the Canberra Brewers, Brisbane Amateur Beer Brewers, Melbourne Brewers and Maltose Falcons for having great brewing meetings/events which helped inspire us to create RBT.

  • Tom Dixon and David Gilks from the Canberra Brewers, and Travis Klein formerly of the Bendigo and Districts Homebrew Club for their advice, knowledge and time.

  • The Australian Tax Office for driving us to homebrew with their ridiculous tax regime.

  • The duopoly of Fosters and Lion Nathan for driving us to homebrew with their insipid, boring, bland, fizzy beers; you've inspired us to brew something better, something with flavour!

If you think you should be added to this list, removed from this list, or you are an Ancient Mesopotamian, please let us know.
